Who We Are
The Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial Bhawan Society, Chandigarh has been organizing at least three function every year namely Gaurav Diwas (13 March ) when the great martyr shot dead Sir Michael O’Dwyer, in London. Shaheedi diwas on 31 July & Birthday On 26th Dec on these occasions the photos are taken and proceedings are got published in the newspapers . . .
Shaheed Udham Singh
Shaheed Udham Singh, a revolutionary nationalist, was born Sher Singh on 26 December 1899, at Sunam, in the then princely state of Patiala. His father, Tahal Singh, was at that time working as a watchman on a railway crossing in the neighbouring village of Upall. Sher Singh lost his parents before he was seven years and was admitted along with his brother Mukta Singh to the Central Khalsa Orphanage at Amritsar on 24 October 1907 . . .
Why was it built
- To construct memorial, Bhawans of the martyrs.
- To spread the philosophy of secularism, patriotism, expounded by the martyrs during their lifetime.
- To arrange for the preparation and pollution of the historical and biographical literature on martyrs in principal Indian languages.
- To arrange cultural and sports meet in memory of great martyrs.
- To arrange institution of learning.
- To offer prices, awards, scholarships, stipend and to give grant with a view to furthering the aims and objectives of the societies listed above and advancement of education.
- To acquire and own moveable and immovable properties for furtherance of the aims and objectives of the societies.
- Take all steps to adopt all search measures as might be deemed necessary to carry out the aforesaid aims and objectives.
